Zynga announces closure of OMGPop.com, four OMGPop Facebook games

Zynga has announced the closure of OMGPop.com, affecting multiple games from the service on both its own website and on Facebook. This decision does not appear to affect the Draw Something franchise, but it will see four OMGPop games removed from the Facebook platform.

Facebook games Cupcake Corner, Gem Rush, Pool World Champ and Snoops will all be closed on August 29, while the overall OMGPop.com website, including its own selection of casual games, will be shuttered on September 30.

These Facebook games had disappointing player numbers, with all four currently sitting under 50,000 monthly active users, according to our app tracking service AppData.

This closure also does not affect Draw My Thing, which is still available to play on Facebook.

Players of any of these affected Facebook games are being offered compensation packages in other Zynga titles, including FarmVille 2, Hidden Shadows and Bubble Safari. Players can redeem these packages by logging into one of the closing games and choosing their package of choice. The compensation package will be delivered in the coming weeks, but no details concerning their contents have been revealed.

“Our goal at Zynga is to give players the opportunity to play the most fun and social games on the web,” reads a company statement. “With this goal in mind, we have decided to close some OMGPOP games to make way for new and exciting gaming opportunities.”

Zynga purchased Draw Something developer OMGPop in March 2012 for $180 million. While Draw Something experienced monumental success on mobile, the franchise (including the sequel Draw Something 2) wasn’t able to sustain that success long term, resulting in Zynga shutting down the studio’s office in June.
