Mobile game developer Kiwi, Inc. has announced a new partnership with Sequoia Capital, resulting in $9 million in funding. The company has also received backing from AdMob founder Omar Hamoui, Guitar Hero co-creator Charles Huang and SV Angels.

This funding will help Kiwi continue to expand upon its catalog of high-ranking Android mobile games, including adventure titles Shipwrecked and Brightwood Adventures, theme park simulation game Monsterama Park and mystery hidden object game Mystery Estate.

Industry veterans Omar Siddiqui and Shevtank Jain, who began working together at Trippert Labs in 2007, founded Kiwi in August 2011. The developer was purchased by Playdom in 2009, which was itself purchased by Disney in 2010. While at Playdom / Disney, the team helped create the popular Facebook social game Gardens of Time.

Kiwi’s games focus on character-driven storylines and impressive graphics. Mystery Estate, for instance, was featured at Google’s Nexus 7 product announcement due to its excellent graphical design.

“Shvet and I started Kiwi in August 2011 to build a distinctive mobile entertainment company on Android,” said Kiwi CEO Omar Siddiqui in a company release. Over the past two years, we’ve built great games that surprise and delight our players, and have also built the distribution and analytics tools required for our business success. With four of our titles profitably achieving Top 25 Grossing ranks on Google Play, we’re excited to have gotten off to a great start.”

“Kiwi was a unique opportunity for us to partner with a proven and seasoned founding team who are taking a fundamentally different approach to building more than just another mobile gaming company,” added Sequoia Partner and Kiwi Board Member Alfred Lin. “We are looking forward to continuing to work with the team as they accelerate their explosive growth and broaden their reach across the mobile ecosystem.”

You can find a complete roundup of Kiwi’s games on the company’s official website.
