Playtox brings My Farm to the US, increases focus on HTML5

Browser game developer Playtox has announced the US launch of its successful massively multiplayer online (MMO) game My Farm. The mobile browser game has been played by over 45 million players worldwide, with 10 million active users in Eastern Europe alone.

This American launch comes after recent funding from Runa Capital, and signifies the beginning of Playtox’s commitment to releasing games in the US while also experimenting with HTML5.

My Farm plays as a traditional MMO, allowing players to connect with more than just friends or users in their immediate social circles. Instead, users are encouraged to play with or against millions of other players. The free-to-play farming game has a 60 percent retention rate.

Playtox has released both a high-definition and light version of the game to take advantage of all manner of mobile phones. The game is compatible for play on feature phones and smart phones with web capabilities, and it does not require a download or an installed app to function. However, My Farm is also available to download as an app on the Google Play store.

“The U.S. launch of My Farm aligns perfectly with our mission to design games around a highly social yet mobile audience of more than 45 million that enjoys interacting with people from all over the world,” said Artem Zinoviev, CEO of Playtox, via a company release. “By focusing on mobile browsers as the primary method of gameplay, we’ve removed a lot of the issues that go hand-in-hand with other popular games, including downloads, constant updates and the limited ability to connect with players outside of your own social networks.”

My Farm allows players to grow crops, tend exotic islands, raise farm animals and more. Players are challenged to complete a variety of goals to earn rare rewards, with the overall experience being supported by paid microtransactions.
