Pet Rescue Saga is this week’s gainer among the Top 25 Facebook games of December 2012
The first week of December’s almost over, meaning it’s time to start checking in on the Top 25 Facebook Games of December 2012.
As always, we’re examining the games on this list by daily active users, which is the best measurement of their core audiences. Since we’re starting at the bottom of the list, the traffic numbers are incredibly close together, so even minor shifts can result in placement changes. This is especially true this month, since 15 of the titles on the list were tied for various positions.
This week, we’re looking at No. 25 through No. 19; there weren’t any traffic losses to report, all the titles we looked at this week either stayed the same or saw gains.
T24. DoubleDown Casino
DoubleDown Interactive’s DoubleDown Casino, after suffering a small weekend lull, is back at its starting point of 1.5 million DAU. Even though DoubleDown Casino’s still at its highest traffic point in its existence, it’s been hovering around this point since December 2011. Ever since IGT purchased the developer earlier this year, the game’s traffic has been holding steady instead of moving up, though it’s been continuing to bring in record revenues. It’s tough to predict whether or not the game will move up or down in time for January’s list, since December saw a lot of movement. If the game stays at 1.5 million, it seems like it could go either way.
CityVille is also holding steady at 1.5 million, a nearly 90 percent drop from where the game was at last year. Like many Zynga titles, CityVille’s traffic has been steadily falling after hitting an early peak following its launch, but the numbers have been dropping dramatically over the past couple of months following CityVille 2’s launch. November saw the game lose 500,000 DAU, so it’s probably safe to assume the game will see a similar loss and won’t be on January’s Top 25 list.
T23. Angry Birds Friends
Rovio’s Angry Birds Friends is actually up a little, from 1.5 million DAU to 1.7 million. The game launched in February and peaked in April with 3.4 million DAU, but its traffic’s been falling since then, but it’s failed to recapture the lightning-in-a-bottle success of its mobile counterpart. Still, if the game manages to see continued growth over the month it might very well move up the list by a spot or two in time for next month’s list.
CastleVille is also back to where it started with 1.6 million DAU. The game had 8.5 million DAU in December 2011 following its November launch, but it’s been losing users ever since. As opposed to CityVille, though, the losses haven’t been all that dramatic, having only lost 300,000 DAU in the past month. That said, if the traffic losses continue, CastleVille might very well be another Zynga title that falls off the list next month.
T23. Tetris Battle
Tetris Online is another title back at 1.6 million DAU. The game launched in 2010 and saw steady growth that began to rocket upwards toward the end of 2011. It wound up spiking in April with 4.2 million DAU, but the traffic began to nosedive after that. By July, the game was at 3 million DAU and 2 million by October. The drop-off seems to be slowing down lately but isn’t actually showing any signs of stopping off. If Tetris Battle manages to stay around this point, it probably won’t change position on next month’s list.
T19. Pet Rescue Saga
King.com’s recently-launched Pet Rescue Saga is already off to a roaring start, starting the month off at 1.7 million DAU and now at 1.9 million. Like the developer’s other “Saga” titles, Pet Rescue Saga is proving immensely popular; since the game launched in late October, it’s managed to grow by 1.94 million DAU and isn’t showing any sign of slowing down. This may actually be the fastest growth a “Saga” game’s seen within the first six weeks of launch. As a result, it’s safe to assume the game will continue to grow over December and will probably jump up several spots on January’s list.
T19. Pyramid Solitaire Saga
Another King.com title, Pyramid Solitaire Saga is back at 1.7 million DAU. Pyramid Solitaire Saga saw strong early growth when it launched in May, but the traffic increases slowed down soon after its launch. Still, the game’s managed to continue growing and it’s sitting at the peak point of 1.7 million DAU right now. King.com’s user base is largely growing, though, based on the success of its “Saga” games and their recent crossover to iOS; Pyramid Solitaire Saga’s traffic might continue improving over the next month and move up by a spot or two in time for January.
