PlayHaven secures $8 million in new financing – Mobile game management and monetization solutions provider PlayHaven announced it has closed an $8 million round of financing led by new investor GGV Capital with participation from existing investors including e.ventures, Tandem Entrepreneurs and individual investors. PlayHaven will use the funds to develop new consumer insights features and to extend its footprint in Europe and Asia.

Climate Change getting social game to raise awareness — The Climate Reality Project is about to launch a new social game that will hopefully help raise awareness about climate change. The game is called Reality Drop and will let players earn points for sharing climate change facts and “dropping reality” on those people who deny its existence.

Cie Games launches Car Town Streets on iOS – Social game developer Cie Games today announced the global launch of Car Town Streets on the Apple App Store. The app is free to download on iPod touch, iPhone and iPad. In the game, based on Car Town for Facebook, players find, build and drive their cars in a fully customizable town.

Where’s My Water? getting  new levels a week — Disney Interactive revealed its hit mobile title Where’s My Water? will receive brand new levels featuring Swampy, Cranky and the Mystery Duck every week from now on. Not only that, but the updates will be free; all one needs to do is access the “Levels of the Week” section from the game’s main menu.

Bookie Mania hits Facebook [Launch] — Bookie Mania entered into open beta on Facebook. The game is a social betting game that lets users wager on non-sporting events like music, movies and financial markets. In keeping with the game’s launch the developer behind the title revealed that if the game’s intern manages to virally secure 5,000 users by Christmas, Founder Rohin Malhotra will shave his legs, dress as Mrs. Claus and dance in Trafalgar Square.

DoubleDown Interactive helps IGT’s revenue soar — DoubleDown Interactive helped its parent company IGT’s revenue grow 302 percent over the last quarter and 293 percent in its fiscal quarter. According to the Seattle Times, the developer’s popular social casino game DoubleDown Casino has been so successful that it’s doubled both its office space and head count.

Animoca secures rights to Mr. Bean and Ultraman — Mobile game developer Animoca announced this week that it’s secured the worldwide rights to develop and publish games based on the popular UK television series Mr. Bean and Japanese superhero Ultraman.
