Plants vs. Zombies downloaded 250,000 times to fight “zombie mouth” — The American Dental Association and PopCap Games announced some pretty big numbers regarding October’s “Stop Zombie Mouth” campaign. Over 1 million trading cards were distributed by dentists across the U.S. and Plants vs. Zombies was downloaded more than 250,000 times over this past week. The deadline to redeem the free download on these cards has been extended to November 13.
Dungeon Rampage gets adorable add-on — Dungeon Rampage got a cute-and-cuddly upgrade this week with the new recruitable creatures Vorpal Bunny and Furball the Destroyer. The trailer for these new pets show how they’ll follow players around but can become unholy forces of destruction on the battlefield.
Mirrorball Slots is making a lot of money — London-based social game developer Plumbee recently announced its hit 8-digit revenues (somewhere between $10 million and $99.9 million), not bad considering the company came out of stealth and launched Mirrorball slots back in March. The studio’s also grown to 35 people and is continuing to hire for its London office.
Zynga partners with Water.org for charity — Zynga’s charity arm Zynga.org announced it’s partnering with Water.org to create a partnership in FarmVille 2 to bring water to those in need. Over the next four weeks, the game will offer three different water-themed items for purchase in FarmVille 2, with both Zynga and Facebook donating 100 percent of these purchases to Water.org, which provides safe drinking water to communities around the world.
Zynga shutting down three Zynga Japan games — Following Mark Pincus’s revelation that he was considering closing down Zynga Japan, it’s been revealed that the studio will shut down three of its games: card-battle game Montopia, Mojitomo (the Japanese version of Words With Friends) and citybuilder Machistuku. In-app purchases are already disabled in Montopia, and the company is already offering a special code to acquire items in Zynga Japan’s other card battle game Ayakashi Ghost Guild.
Yahoo! Japan and GREE team up — Yahoo! Japan and GREE are joining forces to codevelop social games. According to The Next Web, this is a great deal for both companies because it raises’s awareness of GREE as a mobile gaming service and gives Yahoo! Japan (which is a totally separate entity from Yahoo! Inc.) access to a broader mobile audience.
