November Software team working on Zynga’s new mobile mid-core game, Battlestone

In a blog post today, Zynga revealed the team from November Software (pictured here) has been working on an in-house mobile mid-core game, Battlestone.

Zynga acquired November Software for an undisclosed sum this Spring and the team continued working on their game (under the name “Golden Arrow”) from within Zynga. Battlestone’s initial details were unveiled by November Software co-founder Szymon Swistun.

Battlestone utilizes a proprietary 3D engine that’s capable of delivering 60 frames-per-second on mobile devices and on-demand content streaming.  Since being acquired by Zynga, Swistun says his team’s been working with the original Mafia Wars developers, including Justin Cinicolo and Jon-Paul Dumont. “We realized we could accelerate game development by combining our team’s expertise building blockbuster console games and Zynga’s strength in building social games on a massive scale,” he notes in the blog post.

Zynga’s been actively pursuing the mid-core market for a while across social and mobile platforms, something that’s not surprising to many industry sources based on the success of titles like War Commander and Marvel: Avengers Alliance. Back in July, we heard from multiple sources about how the company was shopping around for mid-core developers. Then, Zynga teamed up with Eruptive Software to publish Citizen Grimm. After that, Zynga acquired A Bit Lucky, which is now working on its mid-core title Solstice Arena in-house.
