Bejeweled Blitz and The Ville are this week’s gainer and loser among the Top 25 Facebook games of October 2012

We’re halfway through October, which means it’s time to re-visit the gainers and losers of Top 25 Facebook games of October.

This is still the bottom half of the list, so there’s often a lot of movement here even when traffic changes aren’t all that dramatic. Case in point: This week, five of the six games we’re looking at are tied for their positions.

Looking at the traffic performance of these titles, we’re going to predict how their positions will change come next month.

Here’s what we’ve looked at so far:

This week, we’re looking at No. 18 through No. 13.

18. Slotomania

Playtika’s Slotomania is up from 2 million DAU to the 2.1 million mark. The game launched in late 2010 and steadily gained users since then, but it peaked in June with 2.2 million DAU and has plateaued around the 2 million line. The game’s traffic seems to be pretty stable and doesn’t show signs of dramatically changing, especially since its DAU/MAU percentage has been gradually creeping upwards and now sits at roughly 33 percent (anything above 20 percent is considered very healthy). As a result, Slotomania probably won’t change positions in November.

T15. Tetris Battle

Tetris Online’s Tetris Battle is down from 2.1 million DAU to 1.7 million, a significantly lower number than its April high point of 4.2 million. After rocketing up the Top 25 list from July 2011 through April 2012, the game’s traffic drop off has been rather dramatic, though this month marks the most noticeable decline within a month. The title’s DAU/MAU percentage is currently sitting around 16 percent, too, which is a considered average for a social game. Since we’re only halfway over through the month, if Tetris Battle’s traffic continues to drop at this rate it could be right at the bottom of next month’s list.

T15. The Ville

Zynga’s The Ville is continuing to lose traffic at record speeds and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, having gone from 2.1 million DAU to 1.6 million. It didn’t take long for the game to peak with 7.3 million DAU in July, and the numbers have been dropping like a stone ever since. In August The Ville dropped from 7.3 million DAU to 4.1 million, a 44 percent decrease. Last month it fell from 4.1 million to 2.1 million, a 48 percent fall. If the Ville drops another 45 percent, that’ll mean a drop off of 945,000 DAU; this seems entirely possible given the traffic changes since October began. If the traffic drop is that significant, it might very well disappear from the Top 25 list in November.

T15. Zynga Slingo

Zynga Slingo is also down from 2.1 million DAU, but only to 1.9 million. The game launched in March and reached its peak level of 4.2 million, which it stayed near and kept returning to until May. After that point, traffic fell off to the September low point of 2.1 million DAU before jumping (early into that month) back up to 4.2 million. Based on the game’s traffic history, it looks like Zynga Slingo will probably fall a couple of spots next month, but won’t be in any danger of actually falling off the list.

T13. CastleVille

Zynga’s CastleVille has fallen from 2.4 million DAU to 2.2 million. CastleVille peaked in December 2011 with 11.5 million DAU and has been gradually losing traffic ever since that point. The decline hasn’t been nearly as dramatic as Zynga’s other recent titles, and the traffic loss probably won’t be enough to force CastleVille further down than one or two spots on November’s list.

T13. Bejeweled Blitz

EA PopCap’s Bejeweled Blitz is up from 2.4 million DAU to 2.8 million. Ever since the game launched in 2009, it’s gone through several traffic peaks and valleys. In October 2010, the game reached an all time high point of 4.6 million DAU, and it has yet to return to that point. Since then, the game has gone through a major traffic decline, surge and another decline that it seems to be finally coming out of. It’s still too early to tell if the game will continue to see a steady traffic incline, but the recent overhaul to the game’s mechanics will probably continue to draw in new players for some time and it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Bejeweled Blitz jump up by a few spots in time for next month.

All data in this post comes from our traffic tracking service, AppDataStay tuned for next week’s continuation of our Top 25 gainers and losers, when we look at No. 12 through No. 7 on the list.
