Goko.com returns in open beta, games now playable on the web

Goko appears to have quietly re-launched its products, since they’re now playable on the web in open beta.

Going to Goko’s original games page results in a 404 error, but the company’s official website now contains links to play some of its games, including Dominion, All The King’s Men and Forbidden City.

When we last heard about Goko back in August, the company had taken its HTML5 board game platform back into private beta after a troubled launch. At the time, the company told us things stalled because it wasn’t able to scale fast enough, but provided neither further details nor traffic numbers. Since that time, Goko’s sent out regular emails to members regarding the platform’s status, but never officially announced the open beta launch itself.

Goko originally made headlines in mid-August when it came out of stealth, announcing $8 million in Series A funding and debuting its board game platform. CEO Ted Griggs revealed the company had managed to acquire some massive board game IP, including beating Zynga out for Settlers of Catan.
