YoYo Games and Valve Software today announced GameMaker: Studio is now available to purchase on Steam.

Under the agreement, GameMaker: Studio products will be available to the approximately 45 million users on Valve’s Steam platform. This is a part of Steam’s new store section for non-game programs, but GameMaker: Studio is the only piece of game development software currently being featured.

Users can download GameMaker: Studio’s free version to begin making their games in the program and then purchase packages that unlock extra features, functions and export options. Should one desire to purchase the full version (which can export programs for Steam, HTML5, Facebook, Android, iOS, Windows and Apple’s OS X), there’s currently a 10 percent discount in place, knocking the price down to $449.99.

The partnership between the two companies comes weeks after YoYoGames announced its support for Windows 8 and Windows 8 Phone. Like other products on the Steam store, GameMaker: Studio will utilize Steamworks for features like installation, automatic updates and allowing users to save their work to a personal Steam Cloud.
