The Top 25 Facebook Games of October 2012
Today’s Oct. 1, which means it’s time to once again check out the Top 25 Facebook games. September is often a slow month for social games, due to the fact that it’s the end of vacation season for many families before schools start up again and colleges on the quarter system tend not to begin until the latter half of the month.
Over half of the traffic changes on both lists showed either no movement or a general decrease in traffic. Likewise, only one new game managed to debut on the Top 25 lists this time: FarmVille 2.
We’ll start by looking at the Top 25 by monthly active users — the best way to judge a game’s overall reach on Facebook. Nine of the games here saw positive traffic changes, the largest gain going to Zynga Slingo with 35.4 million MAU. ChefVille took the top spot on the list with 23.2 million MAU, though it only managed to snag the No. 1 position with 100,000 MAU more than Zynga Slingo. FarmVille 2 debuted on the list with the third-largest growth of the month, taking the No. 10 spot with 18 million MAU.
Zynga also saw the largest traffic loss with The Ville. Last month, that game had 49.3 million MAU but it’s now sitting at the 24 million mark. That means the game lost over half its traffic in just one month. After that, Electronic Arts’ SimCity Social (which launched the same week as The Ville) had the second-largest loss, dropping by 5.6 million MAU.

Only three games saw traffic gains in terms of daily active users, which is the best way to judge a title’s core audience. Zynga’s FarmVille 2 had the largest increase, making its inaugural appearance with 6.5 million DAU and taking the No. 2 spot on the list. Social Point’s Dragon City had the next highest gain with 500,000 DAU, while Nordeus’s long-lasting soccer sim Top Eleven took in 100,000 DAU.
Four games saw no traffic change whatsoever: King.com’s Candy Crush Saga, wooga’s Diamond Dash, Zynga Slingo (despite its change in terms of MAU) and Geewa’s Pool Live Tour.
In terms of traffic losses, Zynga took the largest lumps. ChefVille saw the most significant change, falling by 2.2 million DAU. The Ville lost just under half of its traffic from last month, losing 2 million DAU and tumbling to the No. 15 spot on the list. Finally, Bubble Safari fell by 1.3 million DAU.
All data in this post comes from our traffic tracking service, AppData. Stay tuned later this week for the beginning of October’s Top 25 gainers and losers, when we look at the continued performance of games that appeared on the top 25 DAU list.
