Less than 2 percent of Facebook users spent over $1 billion on virtual goods — Forbes is reporting that roughly 15 million Facebook users spent money on virtual goods. Although that only accounts for 1.6 percent of the network’s 955 users, it turns out this group spent $1.26 billion, based on Facebook’s 30 percent cut of $378 million.

John Schappert stripped of game duties at Zynga — Zynga COO John Schappert is no longer in charge of game development, following some reorganization at the game developer. Anonymous sources tell Forbes that David Ko and Steve Chiang  now report directly to Mark Pincus, following slowing sales growth and a drop in demand for virtual goods.

Zynga celebrating Olympics within its games — Zynga, like many other social game devs, is bringing Olympic Fever to some of its bigger Facebook games. From now through August 12, players will be able to represent their country of choice in Bubble Safar, Ruby Blast and Zynga Slingo. Zynga’s leaderboards will keep track of the points accumulated in countries names, and final winners will be announced at the end of the event.

Social games strong performers for Capcom — Capcom’s profits for the latest quarter were up to $16.9 million, a 290 percent increase year-over-year. Although recent release Dragon’s Dogma was a big part of these profits, Capcom also noted social games like The Smurf’s Village and Snoopy’s Street Fair “brought Capcom steady fees”, as well as Minna to Monhan Card Master, Sengoku BASARA: Card Heroes and Resident Evil: Outbreak Survive.

Disruptor Beam hires Hank Howie — Game of Thrones Ascent developer Disruptor Beam announced it’s hired two new executives. Blue Fang Games founder Hank Howie is coming on as COO and VP of Business Development.

Yoga Retreat comes to Facebook [Launch] — Gajatari Studios launched its debut title Yoga Retreat on Facebook this week. The game has players practicing and teaching yoga to customers at their resort, but allows players to learn real-life yoga techniques.

Dead Drop lets you “eliminate” friends with your iPhone [Launch] — Tinker Tailor launch its new iOS title Dead Drop this week. The game is a “live action multiplayer elimination game played by groups of friends in and around their communities.”
