Loot Drop confirmed as Ghost Recon Commander developer
Ubisoft today confirms that Loot Drop is the developer behind upcoming Facebook game Ghost Recon Commander.
The announcement was posted moments ago on the game’s official Facebook page. Ubisoft first teased the title months ago with details on how the game will work in conjunction with the upcoming console and PC-based Ghost Recon games, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Ghost Recon Online. Last October, Ubisoft VP of Digital Publishing Chris Early confirmed that the Facebook game was being developed in San Francisco, but declined to name the developer — in theory because previous developer partner Area Code was poached by Zynga.
For Loot Drop, Ghost Recon Commander marks the developer’s first official Facebook game since its founding last year by video game industry veterans John Romero, Brenda Brathwaite, and Rob Sirotek. The studio’s original “debut” title, Cloudforest Expedition, was shelved during massive restructuring at publisher RockYou late last year. At our Inside Social Apps conference in February, Brathwaite told us Loot Drop had had a game cloned before a line of code had even been written.
