Zynga Acquires Talent From Wonderland Software, Forms Zynga Mobile UK
Zynga announced another talent acquisition this morning: United Kingdom-based mobile developer Wonderland Software, best known for iOS hit GodFinger. The new team will form a studio called Zynga Mobile UK.
The Wonderland Software acquisition nets Zynga not only a team to lead its first-ever UK studio, but also brings the company selections from Wonderland Software’s intellectual property. Godfinger, however, was published by Ngmoco (now acquired by DeNA) and it doesn’t come with the acquisition. Zynga is not saying what other IP Wonderland brings in the deal.
The move signals Zynga’s serious intent to bulk up its mobile offerings. We’ve heard that the company is hiring dozens of people specifically to focus on mobile apps, including development for games like CityVille.
Currently the social game giant has a modest mobile library dominated by iOS games. These titles include tie-in games for three of its core Facebook franchise and a selection of games originally developed by studios Newtoy and Area/Code, both of which Zynga acquired between December 2010 and January 2011.
Wonderland Software CEO Matthew Wiggins is now Zynga Mobile UK’s General Manager, answering to David Ko, Senior Vice President of Mobile at Zynga. Details of the acquisition price were not disclosed.
