John, while AppData sometimes has bugs, so does Facebook’s reporting of application number. In this case, I believe that latter accounted for some of the missing apps.

Can you be more specific in indicating where AppData was inaccurate? Thanks.

AppData’s reports are really flawed. A lot of applications that made the top 20 (based on Facebook’s numbers which AppData uses) are not shown in the top 20 gainers.

The article even says “neither FarmVille or FishVille make an appearance for adding new daily active users” but the author didn’t bother checking if this is actually the case or rather there is something fishy with AppData’s report.

There are also smaller apps that made the top 20 and could use the exposure but are not shown.
