Great post David - representing existing IP and looking for opportunities within the social gaming space is the area I operate in, together with transitioning social gaming IP, however nascent into other media, ie film, TV, console franchises, so I read your post with interest.

Just as Marvel spawned a generation of characters and IP so I believe the social gaming space will spawn the next. We're in it's infancy and the laws and guidelines have yet to be firmly established. Imitation can be a good thing, cough cough Scrabble ! But often games are Asian imports, such as Farmville etc and I'm pretty sure those developers aren't using a license for 'harvesting digital turnips', rather we're adopting more of an Asian view of copyright, which is benign neglect. As the market develops so parameters will need to be put in place, but for now it's vital to encourage growth and experimentation and to some degree imitation.
