Finnish Startup Everyplay Launches New Virtual World Inside Facebook

kamuworldAnother European social game has just appeared on the Facebook Platform, as the Finnish social gaming startup everyplay is coming out of stealth mode to reveal Kamu World. Finnish for “buddy,” players control a miniscule little creature with a boxy head and big, puppy dog eyes as you wander around the world in search of friends.

Okay, so maybe Kamu World isn’t exactly a game. It’s more of a virtual world to just hang out, like a 3D chat room reminiscent of Second Life or IMVU. Each room is a close up image from a location around the world such as an art gallery in London or a soccer stadium in Brazil, and each shows just how tiny our little Kamus are.

What is curious, however, is that while the app is like a chat room, it does have game-like features. Primarily, there is the aspect of leveling up. For every action the player does, they accumulate experience, or “Sparks.” The higher level the player, the more features are unlocked (i.e. a wider range of emotes). Beyond this, and perhaps the more interesting element, is that all activities performed are supposed to affect the world as a whole. However, based on the current features available in the game, one cannot be sure what happens exactly.

kamuworldAnother very interesting feature is one dubbed “real world missions.” If so desired, users can print out a physical copy of their personal Kamu and take it around the world (or just around town) and take pictures of it “doing” things in real life. By doing so, players are able to win both Sparks and various special prizes from everyplay.

The game is quite simple at the moment, but there is a method to this madness. Jussi Laakkonen, CEO and founder of everyplay states that the current version of Kamu World is just a test. The team does know, however, that greater avatar customization, virtual goods, and mini-games are on the way, but for the moment, the developers wish to focus on fixing issues based on how Kamu is being used and played.

At the moment, there are no plans to expand beyond the Facebook platform. According to Laakkonen, everyplay wants to see how the distribution on the largest social network pans out first. Surprisingly, however, the social developer also has no other games or projects slated for the near future. Granted, other titles are likely to appear later on, but for the moment, all attention is on Kamu World.
